Description
Leverbox / Tumbler System
The ZMS Leverbox is a heavy-duty, manually operated control unit designed for railway turnout, switching and signalling systems. Installed alongside the track or within a rail-control environment, it transfers the operator’s lever movement through rods or linkages to control a turnout, lock or signalling device.
Its integrated tumbler mechanism locks the lever securely in the selected position. This helps prevent accidental or incomplete turnout movement and supports safe, consistent route selection in demanding underground mining environments.
Key Features
- Heavy-duty industrial-grade construction
- Positive locking mechanism for safer operation
- Integrated tumbler system helps prevent unintended movement
- Smooth and repeatable lever positioning
- Designed for abrasive and wet underground conditions
- Compatible with turnout and interlocking systems
- Corrosion-resistant finish for extended service life
- Available in custom configurations
Applications
The ZMS Leverbox is suitable for:
- Underground mining turnout and switch operation
- Manual siding and yard control
- Underground rail-haulage systems
- Track switching and route-control systems
- Depot and workshop rail management
- Manual backup during power or automation failures
- Gold, platinum and chrome mining operations
Operation
The operator moves the lever inside the leverbox, transferring movement through the connected rods or linkage system to the turnout or signalling device. The tumbler mechanism then locks the lever into the selected position, helping prevent unsafe or partial movement.
Benefits
- Improves underground rail operational safety
- Helps prevent accidental or partial turnout movement
- Reduces the risk of derailment and incorrect route selection
- Provides dependable manual control during automation or power failures
- Improves underground rail control and operating efficiency
- Supports safe and repeatable turnout positioning
Safety and Maintenance
All moving and locking components should be inspected before operation. The lever must lock fully into position and should never be forced while under load. Moving components should be lubricated regularly and inspected for wear, deformation or corrosion.
Only trained personnel should operate the system, and damaged or worn components must be replaced promptly. All applicable underground rail-safety procedures should be followed.
ZMS Leverboxes can be supplied fully assembled or manufactured in custom configurations to meet specific project and operating requirements. Bulk supply is also available for larger underground rail projects.
